Airtable offline: what works with no signal
Short answer: it does not. Airtable’s own help centre says so in one line: “Offline access to Airtable is not supported.”
That sentence is on Airtable’s page Airtable technical requirements (read on 2 November 2026). The same page lists internet access as a requirement for the web, the phone apps, the Mac app and the Windows app.
What Airtable suggests instead
The same page offers two ways to keep a copy:
- Download each table as a CSV. Every table is its own file. Attachments have to be saved separately. Comments, field descriptions, extensions and the base guide are not in the export.
- Build an API integration that fetches your data now and then and saves it somewhere.
Both give you a copy to look at. Neither gives you something you can keep working in. A CSV on a laptop is a spreadsheet: no links between tables, no forms, no one else’s changes coming back in.
When Airtable is still the right answer
- Everyone always has a connection. Then offline does not matter, and Airtable is a more finished product than ours, with automations, interfaces and an extension marketplace.
- Your base runs on formulas. Formula fields do not come across to us, and calculated fields here do not calculate yet. If that is the heart of your base, stay.
- Your people work from phones. We have no phone app yet either.
When the work happens where the signal does not
Site visits, basements, farms, a van between jobs, a hall with bad wifi. If the person doing the work carries a laptop or a Windows tablet, this is the case we built for.
Download a table from Airtable as CSV (the small arrow beside the view name, then Download CSV) and drop it on our Airtable page. You get the same records back as a database. Load the table the others link to first, and a linked-record column that names its records becomes a real link.
Then open it in the desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux. It keeps a full, encrypted copy of the database on the computer. Adding and editing records, search, files and printing all work with no connection, for as long as you like. When it finds a connection, changes go up and come down by themselves. If two people changed the same record while apart, both versions are kept and a person picks.
Free covers unlimited apps and 10,000 entries per app. Business is $29 a month for the whole team, with unlimited users, so nobody is counting editors.
Where this is honest
- Offline is the desktop app only. In a browser, ours needs a connection too.
- No phone app yet. If phones are the whole job, look at AppSheet or Power Apps, which do work offline on phones.
- Automations, interfaces and formulas do not come across. The records do, and the screens are rebuilt.
- We are small and pre-launch. We say plainly which parts are not finished, and your data can always be exported again.
Try it with your own export. Drop an Airtable CSV here. No signup to see the result.
Or open the live demo first. No email.
