Does Smartsheet work offline?
Short answer: only its forms. You cannot open or edit a sheet with no signal.
Smartsheet’s help page Use forms on the mobile app says it in one line: “Forms are the only feature offering offline interactivity. Any other items in the app require an active internet connection.” (Read on 3 November 2026.)
The forms part is real and useful. While you have signal, you switch on “Make available offline” for each form, one by one. Later you can fill it in with no signal, and it sends when you are back online and signed in. That is a good fit for collecting new entries in the field. It does not let you look up a job, check what was done last time, or change a row.
What that means at work
- A site visit or an inspection with no signal: you can send a new form, but you cannot see the sheet it lands in, or the history of that site.
- Fixing a mistake in a row you already sent waits until you are back in range.
- A form you forgot to switch on before you lost signal is not there when you need it.
None of that matters if everyone works at a desk with good internet. Smartsheet is a strong tool there. It matters when the work happens where the signal is not.
An AI app builder that works with no signal
Bionic Forms builds an app from a sentence or a spreadsheet. The difference is where the records live. Our desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux keeps a full, encrypted copy of the database on the computer. Adding, editing, search, files and printing all work with no connection, for as long as you like. When it finds a connection, changes go up and come down by themselves. If two people changed the same record while apart, both versions are kept and a person picks.
Bringing a sheet across
Smartsheet can export a sheet to Excel. Do that once per sheet, then drop the .xlsx file on our home page. No need to turn it into a CSV first. You get the rows back as a database, and you can describe the screens you want in a sentence. Free covers unlimited apps and 10,000 entries per app. Business is $29 a month for the whole team, with unlimited users.
Where this is honest
- Offline is the desktop app only. In a browser, ours needs a connection too.
- No phone app yet. If your people only carry phones and only fill in forms, Smartsheet’s offline forms may be the simpler answer. If they need whole apps on a phone, look at AppSheet or Power Apps, which do work offline on a phone.
- Building an app needs a connection. The AI that builds it runs on our server. Using it afterwards does not.
- Gantt charts, formulas and Smartsheet automations do not come across. The rows do, and the screens are rebuilt. Automations are written again as plain sentences.
- We are small and pre-launch. We say plainly which parts are not finished, and your data can always be exported again.
Try it with your own data. Drop a spreadsheet on the home page. No signup to see the result.
Or open the live demo first. No email.
