Bionic Forms

An AI app builder that works offline

Last updated 2 November 2026.

You can describe an app in a sentence and have it built in a minute now. Then you take it to a basement, a farm, a job site or a plane, and it stops. Most AI app builders run in a browser against a database in the cloud, so no signal means no app.

If the people using the app work where the signal drops, that is the first question to ask of any builder. Here is the honest answer for the common ones.

Which builders keep working with no signal

BuilderBuilds from a descriptionWorks with no connection
Lovable, Bolt, Replit, Base44Yes, as codeNo. The app is a website on a cloud database.
Softr, GlideYesNo for Softr. Glide can cache a little, but is built to be online.
Google AppSheetYesYes, on phones and tablets, with conditions (below).
Microsoft Power AppsYes, with CopilotYes, in the mobile app, with conditions (below).
Bionic FormsYesYes, on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. Not on phones yet.

AppSheet: offline is real, and you set it up

Google’s own help page, Offline and Sync: The Essentials, is clear about how it works. The app has to be opened online once on each device first. Starting it with no signal is a setting the app maker turns on before the app is installed. Photos and files are only kept on the device if another setting is on. Maps do not show offline.

It also says you should not run for days or weeks with no connection at all. For a crew that is out of range for an afternoon, AppSheet is a good answer. For one that is out for a week, Google itself says to think again.

Power Apps: offline in the mobile app, on Dataverse

Microsoft’s page Mobile offline for canvas apps explains the rules. Offline works in the Power Apps mobile app on iOS, Android and Windows, not in a browser. The data has to live in Dataverse, Microsoft’s own database, which comes with premium licences. A SharePoint list does not work offline that way. If your company is already paying for Microsoft’s premium plans, this is a strong option.

Bionic Forms: the whole database lives on the machine

Bionic Forms starts from the other end. You describe what you need (“jobs, the customer for each job, the parts used, and photos”) and the assistant proposes the collections, fields and views. You look it over and say yes.

The desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux then keeps a full, encrypted copy of the database on the computer. Everything works with no connection: adding records, editing them, searching, printing, the lot. There is no offline mode to switch on, because there is no online mode. When the computer finds a connection again, its changes go up and everyone else’s come down, on their own.

Two people can edit the same record while apart. Neither change is thrown away: the record is marked, both versions are shown side by side, and a person picks the right one.

Where this is honest

Try a real one first. The live demo opens a working database. No signup, no email.

Or describe your own and see it built: start free. No card, no trial clock.

Rather not do it yourself? Tell us what your crew records and we will build a working version and show you. No fee.

Coming from Access? Using an Access database offline covers what happened to replication and the AutoNumber problem. Doing inspections? See an inspection app that works with no signal. Running a gate? See event check-in with no Wi-Fi. Weighing another tool? AppSheet and Power Apps offline, Airtable offline and Glide offline.
