Glide offline: what works with no signal
Short answer: a little. With no connection a Glide app can show what it already loaded and take new rows. It cannot change a row that is already there.
That comes from Glide’s own Add Row page (read on 2 November 2026): “With offline add row, users can view the app, but not make changes to the data other than to add a new row.” Rows added offline are kept on the device and sent when the signal comes back.
The conditions
- The app has to be loaded first. Glide’s page says “For offline mode to work, the end user must load the application on their device.” Users on Glide’s community forum report that this means the app must already be open when the signal drops.
- Not for big data. “Offline add row is not available for high-scale data sources like SQL and Big Tables.”
- Only what was cached. On the forum, one of its regular helpers put it plainly: “Generally it will only display what has been cached while the app is running.” Glide apps are web apps, so they expect a connection.
- It may depend on your plan. Forum answers say offline row adding needs Glide’s Business plan or above. Glide’s current pricing article does not mention offline at all, so ask Glide before you count on it.
When Glide offline is enough
- The job is a form. A crew logs a new visit, a new reading, a new sign-in. Nobody needs to fix yesterday’s entry until they are back in signal.
- People work from phones. Glide runs on phones. We have no phone app yet, so for a phone-only crew Glide (or AppSheet or Power Apps) fits better today.
When it is not enough
An inspector opens last month’s report to tick off what was fixed. A technician changes a job from “open” to “done”. A rep updates a customer’s address in a car park. All of those are edits, and an edit is the one thing Glide offline will not take.
If the person doing the work carries a laptop or a Windows tablet, our desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux keeps a full, encrypted copy of the database on the computer. Adding, editing, search, files and printing all work with no connection, for as long as you like, and nothing has to be open when the signal drops. When it finds a connection, changes go up and come down by themselves. If two people changed the same record while apart, both versions are kept and a person picks.
Bringing a Glide app’s data across
- If it runs on a Google Sheet, the sheet is your data. In Google Sheets, File, then Download, then CSV, one tab at a time.
- If it runs on Glide Tables, right-click the table in Glide’s Data Editor, choose Export Data, pick the columns and export. Glide announced the steps here.
Then drop the file on our home page. You get the records back as a database, and you can describe the screens you want in a sentence. Free covers unlimited apps and 10,000 entries per app. Business is $29 a month for the whole team, with unlimited users.
Where this is honest
- Offline is the desktop app only. In a browser, ours needs a connection too.
- No phone app yet. That is the biggest gap against Glide.
- Building an app needs a connection. The AI that builds it runs on our server. Using it afterwards does not.
- Glide’s screens, actions and computed columns do not come across. The records do, and the screens are rebuilt.
- We are small and pre-launch. We say plainly which parts are not finished, and your data can always be exported again.
Try it with your own data. Drop a CSV on the home page. No signup to see the result.
Or open the live demo first. No email.
