Does Google Forms work offline?
Short answer: no. A Google Form needs a connection to fill in and to send.
Google’s own help article Autosave your response progress on a Google Form says it plainly: “If you’re offline, autosave doesn’t work.” Autosave only runs when the person is signed in to a Google account, keeps a draft for 30 days, and the form owner can switch it off. (Read on 6 November 2026.)
You can make the response spreadsheet available offline in Google Sheets, so you can read answers that already came in. That does not let anyone send a new one.
What that means at work
- An inspection in a basement or a farm visit with no signal. You type the answers, press submit, and nothing goes. Close the tab and they are gone.
- A shared tablet at the door of an event. If the wifi drops, people queue while you wait for it.
- You need to look something up. A form only adds rows. It cannot find last month’s visit to the same customer, or let you fix it.
If you are collecting answers from strangers who are online, Google Forms is free and does that job well. The gap is when your own people record things in places with no signal, and need to see and change what they recorded before.
An app your team fills in with no signal
Bionic Forms builds an app from a sentence or a spreadsheet. Our desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux keeps a full, encrypted copy of the whole database on the computer. With no connection your team can add records, search, fix old ones, attach photos and print, for as long as they like. When the computer finds a connection, changes go up and come down by themselves. If two people changed the same record while apart, both versions are kept and a person picks.
Bringing your Google Form answers across
Open the response spreadsheet in Google Sheets, then File, Download, CSV. Or copy the sheet’s link. Drop the file or paste the link in the box on our home page and every answer comes back as a record, with a column for each question. Free covers unlimited apps and 10,000 entries per app. Business is $29 a month for the whole team, with unlimited users.
Where this is honest
- Our public forms need a connection too. A form you share with people outside your team is a web page, like a Google Form. Offline is for your own team in the desktop app.
- No phone app yet. If your people only carry phones, AppSheet and Power Apps do offline on a phone and we do not.
- Building an app needs a connection. The AI that builds it runs on our server. Using it afterwards does not.
- We are small and pre-launch. We say plainly which parts are not finished, and your data can always be exported again.
Build it now. Say what your Google Form asks, and we build that app for you to try.
