Does Coda work offline?
Short answer: only a doc you already had open. You cannot open a doc with no signal, and a refresh while offline can lose your edits.
Coda is now called Superhuman Docs. Its help article, Use your docs while offline, says you can keep editing when the connection drops, and your changes go up when you are back. It also says: “You must have a connection to open and load a doc.” (Read on 5 November 2026.)
The same article lists the risks. If you refresh the page, log out, clear your cache, or stay offline more than 30 days, you may lose some of your changes. While you are offline you cannot see what others change, and they cannot see yours. Pack sync tables, embeds and templates need a connection.
What that means at work
- You forgot to open the doc before you left. With no signal, it will not open at all.
- The browser tab reloads on a site visit, or the laptop restarts. The edits you made since you lost signal may be gone.
- Two people out of range edit the same table. Some changes may clash, and nobody sees the other’s work until both are back.
Coda is good for docs and tables at a desk with steady internet. The gap shows up when the table has to go where the signal does not.
An AI app builder that works with no signal
Bionic Forms builds an app from a sentence or a spreadsheet. The difference is where the records live. Our desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux keeps a full, encrypted copy of the whole database on the computer. It opens with no connection, and it survives a restart. Adding, editing, search, files and printing all work offline, for as long as you like. When it finds a connection, changes go up and come down by themselves. If two people changed the same record while apart, both versions are kept and a person picks.
Bringing a Coda table across
In Coda, show every column and clear any filter, then open the table’s ··· menu and download it as CSV. Formulas come out as their values, not the formula. Drop that file in the box on our home page and you get the rows back as a database. Free covers unlimited apps and 10,000 entries per app. Business is $29 a month for the whole team, with unlimited users.
Where this is honest
- Offline is the desktop app only. In a browser, ours needs a connection too.
- No phone app yet. If your people only carry phones, look at AppSheet or Power Apps, which work offline on a phone.
- Building an app needs a connection. The AI that builds it runs on our server. Using it afterwards does not.
- Coda pages, formulas and Packs do not come across. The rows do, and the screens are rebuilt. Keep Coda for the writing.
- We are small and pre-launch. We say plainly which parts are not finished, and your data can always be exported again.
