Does Notion work offline?

Short answer: partly. Pages work. A big database does not come with you unless you download it row by row.

Notion’s own guide, Working offline in Notion, says you can “view, edit, and create pages offline on the desktop or mobile app.” Then comes the part that matters for a database: “When you download a database, the first 50 rows download automatically.” Any other row has to be downloaded on its own. (Read on 5 November 2026.)

The same guide says things that need a live connection, “such as embeds, forms, or buttons,” will not work, and you cannot share pages or change who can see them while offline. When you are back online, text edits are merged for you. Other changes, like images, may need you to look at them by hand.

What that means at work

• A list of 300 customers or jobs: with no signal you see the first 50, unless you downloaded the rest one at a time before you left.
• A button or a form your team uses to log a visit does nothing until you are back in range.
• Pages are fine. If you mostly write notes, Notion offline may be all you need.

Notion is a strong tool for pages and notes at a desk. The gap shows up when the thing you carry into the field is a database.

An AI app builder that works with no signal

Bringing a Notion database across

In Notion, open the database, choose Export from the ··· menu and pick Markdown & CSV. Inside the zip, each database is a .csv file. Drop that file on our Notion page and you get the rows back as a database. Free covers unlimited apps and 10,000 entries per app. Business is $29 a month for the whole team, with unlimited users.

Where this is honest

• Offline is the desktop app only. In a browser, ours needs a connection too.
• No phone app yet. Notion’s phone app does work offline for pages. If your people only carry phones, look at AppSheet or Power Apps, which work offline on a phone.
• Building an app needs a connection. The AI that builds it runs on our server. Using it afterwards does not.
• Notion pages, formulas and rollups do not come across. The rows do, and the screens are rebuilt. Keep Notion for the writing.
• We are small and pre-launch. We say plainly which parts are not finished, and your data can always be exported again.
