Does monday.com work offline?

Short answer: only in the phone app, and only partly. The web and desktop apps need a connection.

• On an iPhone you can change a column’s value, like a status or who a job is assigned to. The article lists nothing else. You cannot add a new item.
• On Android you can also add, rename, move and delete items.
• Your edit wins. In monday.com’s words, if someone else changed the same item, “your change will override theirs”.
• No warning. The article says nothing on screen tells you that you are working offline.

What that means at work

• A site visit with no signal. On an iPhone you can tick a status, but you cannot log the new job you just found.
• Two people on the same job. The office updates it, the person in the field updates it with no signal, and the office’s change is gone when the phone reconnects. Nobody is told.
• A laptop on a plane or in a basement. The web and desktop apps do not open your boards at all.

If your team is online all day, monday.com is a good tool and none of this matters. The gap is when people work where the signal drops and need the whole board, not one column of it.

An app your team uses with no signal

Bionic Forms builds an app from a sentence or a spreadsheet. Our desktop app for Windows, macOS or Linux keeps a full, encrypted copy of the whole database on the computer. With no connection your team can add records, search, fix old ones, attach photos and print, for as long as they like. When the computer finds a connection, changes go up and come down by themselves. If two people changed the same record while apart, both versions are kept and a person picks. Nothing is overwritten quietly.

Bringing your monday.com board across

Export the board to Excel from the board’s menu. Drop the file in the box on our home page and every item comes back as a record, with a field for each column. Free covers unlimited apps and 10,000 entries per app. Business is $29 a month for the whole team, with unlimited users.

Where this is honest

• No phone app yet. monday.com does some offline work on a phone and we do none. If your people only carry phones, AppSheet and Power Apps do more offline on a phone than either of us.
• We are not a project tool. There are no Gantt charts or sprint boards. We are a database your team fills in: jobs, customers, visits, inspections.
• Building an app needs a connection. The AI that builds it runs on our server. Using it afterwards does not.
• We are small and pre-launch. We say plainly which parts are not finished, and your data can always be exported again.
